The Urban Tap

1209 East Carson St.

South Side Pittsburgh Bars

The Urban Tap is part of a newer crop of bars to pop up along Carson Street. It aims to “turn traditional American fare on its head.” It has the ambiance of a cozy gastropub, yet is edgy enough for all the college students that frequent Carson St. Best of all, patrons can come back for a post-night out brunch—The Urban Tap serves brunch Saturdays and Sundays until 2 p.m.

Nadine’s

19 S. 27th St.

South Side Pittsburgh Bars

At Nadine’s, drinks are just $2. One can understand its popularity among locals and why many of the young people that frequent South Side adore Nadine’s. It’s a true dive bar that maintains its popularity for it’s delicious and cheap drinks that are also incredibly strong. Owner Nadine Voelker even puts up birthday banners for her regulars. See Nadine’s featured on “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives”

Mario’s

1514 E. Carson St.

South Side Pittsburgh Bars

Mario’s Saloon has been a longstanding neighborhood staple in South Side, serving the community for years. They call themselves a unique blend of college, neighborhood and sports bar rolled into one. Come for the drinks and stay for the crazy good food like the build your own mac and cheese, with cheese and topping options like smoked gouda and bacon. Mmmm we’re getting hungry just thinking about it!

Jimmy D’s

1707 E. Carson St.

South Side Pittsburgh Bars

Jimmy D’s, like Mario’s, is a longtime Carson Street bar. The only difference is Jimmy D’s has more of a nightclub setting. Patrons enjoy specials like their Thursday night $1 drinks and $1 Miller Lites. There’s always no cover at Jimmy D’s and always a large dance scene on their upper floor.  Of all the bars in the south side, this one is an icon!

Bar 11

1101 Bradish St.

South Side Pittsburgh Bars

Rumor has it Pittsburghers call this bar “Narnia” because once one is inside you never know what’s going to happen and you’re forever changed. Bar 11 does crazy fun events like have an end of summer rain party where it rained indoors (they warned guests to wear flip-flops and googles!) and a Heinz Field tailgate field trip party. As far as bars in the south side go… this one’s a classic!
