Where to Take Pittsburgh Kids on a Snowy Day

Sometimes rainy and snowy days in Pittsburgh seem like they’re never ending. Add children to the mix and it’s enough to make anyone go crazy! We put together some great places to take Pittsburgh Kids when you’ve had enough of hanging around the house.

Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum

This one is great for the mini Steeler, Penguin or Pirate in your life. Sporty girls and boys alike will love this museum that pays homage to the moments that make Pittsburgh sports just plain awesome. Since it is hockey season, pint-sized Pens fans will love the history of hockey exhibit exploring its history in Pittsburgh dating all the way back to 1895. Ride the Duquesne Incline

It’s a quick and easy outing that children toddler age to middle school will enjoy. Make a fun time out of it and have everyone throw on some galoshes and raincoats. Once you get to the top, splash in some puddles and take in the views of our gorgeous city! The ride is just as fun in the snow too, but don’t forget to double check about any closings. For those who are Boy Scouts, the incline offers a Scout Patch Program for $6 per scout. It includes a visit to the machine room to observe the original hoisting equipment circa 1877 and a fun incline quiz to take along, among other perks. Click here for info on the Duquesne Incline.

Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh

The Children’s Museum provides endless hours of entertainment on not-so-gorgeous days. On any given weekday, there are sing-alongs, crafts like basket weaving and cornucopia making. The museum is very interactive, with exhibits paying homage to Fred Rogers and a “Cool Stuff” room with a rocket launcher, train table and knitting machine. Boyce Park

Perfect for all of your snow-filled fun, Boyce Park has plenty of options to keep everyone satisfied. For the littler ones, there’s cookies with Santa Dec. 17th. Sounds fun!  Click here for information on Boyce Park.

Sledding at Flagstaff Hill

Flagstaff Hill is great for a long day of sledding to tire out the little ones. If they tire of sled-riding, snowball fights and snowman building are also quite popular here. Flagstaff Hill ensures a long ride with its gentle, sloping hills (so no one complains about having to hike back up to the top!). Not to mention, it’s conveniently located next to Phipps Conservatory, the perfect place to pop in to warm up and have a quick hot chocolate!  Click here for more information on Schenley Park.

These aren’t places just to take Pittsburgh Kids… you can take anyone!
