Spring Hill or City View is a neighborhood in Pittsburgh located on the north side of town. The history of Spring Hill begins with it’s naming after all the springs on the site at the time. Germans were among the first immigrants to Spring Hill from the 1850s through the 1920s. Spring Hill-City View still holds that Bavarian tradition, with street names like Rhine, Zoller and Goehring. The first multi-family housing project backed by the Federal Housing Authority was in Spring Hill. In 1959, Spring Hill Gardens opened with affordable rent and was also racially integrated.

Spring Hill-City View’s populated has varied greatly over the years. In 1970 its population was 8,000 people. Just four years later, half the population was gone and as of 2010, there were only 2,900 residents. The Spring Hill Civic League has created a sense of activism in the community. The activism has helped Spring Hill-City View to become one of the safest neighborhoods in the city. Spring Hill-City View is also home to Pittsburgh Massageworks, which many say is the perfect place for a spa, since the neighborhood is quiet and peaceful and the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. The average age of Spring Hill-City View is 45 years old.
