Pittsburgh Neighborhoods: Chateau

A Brief History of Chateau

History of Chateau

Chateau is a neighborhood located in Pittsburgh’s North Side. The community rests along the banks of the Ohio River and as of the 2000 census, Chateau has a population of just 39 people. Since the neighborhood is really just warehouses and businesses, a 2006 article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the community is pretty much uninhabited. The history of Chateau starts when Ohio River Boulevard cut Manchester in half in the ’60s. The two separate parts were unique enough that one part was named Chateau, in honor of Chateau St., home to many stately homes.
