East Hills is located in Pittsburgh’s east city area. The zip code of the area is 15221 and it’s represented on Pittsburgh City Council with District 9. Surrounding neighborhoods include Homewood North and South, Wilkinsburg, Monroeville and Penn Hills. In 1960, there was a shopping area called the East Hills Shopping Center that was anchored by a Hornes that went vacant in the ’80s after being renamed as the Eastgate Commerce Center. It was almost an outlet mall, briefly served as a Giant Eagle and Zayre store and in 1999 Petra Ministries bought the site and made it a church. The ministries tried to get Walmart to build on site but was unsuccessful.

As of the last census, the East Hills had a population of just over 5,000. It’s median rent was about $400 per month.There are slightly more females than males and the average age is 38.7 years. Housing prices are around $86,000. The East Hills is the easternmost city of Pittsburgh neigborhood. The community has an avid neighborhood site, The East Hills Community Services. The site has news and events like Toys for Tots and a Community Fun Fest as well as various resources for residents.
