7 Great Places for a Pittsburgh Spring Excursion

With spring finally here, it’s not hard to get some serious wanderlust. We’re all busy these days, so we put together a list of seven great places easily accessible for a weekend jaunt. Happy trails, Pittsburghers!

1. Nemacolin Woodlands

Springtime at Nemacolin is full of perfect outdoor activities. Golf at Mystic Rock, what was voted the number one course to play in Pennsylvania, or take part in the Nemacolin Golf Academy. Try out the Adventure Center with a zip line or Nemacolin’s own Wildlife Academy, home to over 100 different species.

2. Omni Bedford Springs

The luxurious and scenic Omni Bedford Springs is just 90 minutes from Pittsburgh, making for the perfect weekend excursion. This spring, enjoy 25 miles of hiking trails and mineral springs treatments in the springs eternal spa. There’s also golf and tennis courts too.

3. Hotel Hershey

The romantic Hotel Hershey is a great idea for couples looking to get away. Enjoy relaxing spa treatments with chocolate themes, like the whipped cocoa bath and chocolate bean polish. For the more active, join Hershey Outfitters and learn fly-fishing, mastering the river or an obstacle course.

4. Ohiopyle

Ohiopyle State Park is the perfect outdoor oasis to escape to one weekend, especially after the long winter we had. There’s activities for everyone for the warm weather, like horseback riding, picnicking, white water rafting and more. When everything is in bloom, this is a truly special place.

5. Chautauqua, NY

Pittsburgh Spring Excursion

Chautauqua, located just outside Erie PA in upstate New York, is home to a cultural and recreational mecca. It’s only about two-and-a-half hours outside Pittsburgh too. The Chautauqua Institution is worth spending a weekend in, taking any of their classes or taking in some of their renowned theater program.

6. Washington, D.C.

Approximately four hours outside Pittsburgh lies our nation’s capital. Spring is a gorgeous time to visit D.C., as everything is in bloom and the National Mall is abuzz with people out and about after a cold winter. Take in any of the museums along the mall, including new ones like the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

7. Deep Creek Lake

Deep Creek Lake is located in Maryland and not too far that it couldn’t make for a great weekend destination. Enjoy hiking through multiple state parks and check out the tallest free-falling waterfall in Maryland. Take a boat out for a spin on the lake and enjoy the sunshine.
