Plum

Plum Borough is in Allegheny County approximately 13 miles east of the city of Pittsburgh.  First known as Plum Township, it was organized in 1788 as part of 7 townships and Pittsburgh in Allegheny County.  It is the 2nd largest borough in Pennsylvania… about 29 square miles.

Reorganized as a borough in 1956, the historical development of the area is closely tied to the coal, mining and aluminum powder industries as well as gas and oil production.  As these industries began to blossom in the 1800s through the 20th century, Plum began to grow, adding many residential neighborhoods.  The availability of land in Plum made this possible then, as it still does today because of the size of the community.

Recently the neighborhood was rated the 6th safest community in America by “Neighborhood Scouts”.

While it is mostly associated with Oakmont, the Oakmont Country Club is actually located wholly in Plum Borough.  Consistently ranked as one of the 5 best golf courses in America, it has played host to many U.S. Open Championships… more than any other course.

Boyce Park, on the border of Monroeville and Plum, is one of the most popular places for recreation in Allegheny County.  The park hosts miles of hiking trails, historical homes, areas for gathering, a wave pool, ski and tubing slopes and much more.
